Rochdale RUFC is very sorry to announce the recent death of former player David Nunwick. On behalf of all at Rochdale RUFC we send our sincere sympathies and condolences to Rosemary and David’s friends, family and former team mates. Dave’s great friend and former team mate David Tattersall remembers David:

DAVID NUNWCK 1953-2021

David passed away on Good Friday

For members with a long association with the rugby club David will be remembered as a quiet reliable man. He joined the club in the new reconstructed Colts team of the 1969-70 season. That team developed into the team which included many well-known club members and later their sons.

David was a stalwart of the B team for over 18 seasons and played for the police team for his division. He found his natural position of open side prop during a very wet afternoon on a mud heap in Tourcoing on the Easter Colts tour of 1971, a day I will remember well as I had to join him and BT early in the match in the front row as Nick Butle, John Mair and Dave Sutcliffe were all injured at one bad scrum. Anyone who has ever been to Tourcoing will know the perils of playing in the front row over there.

David captained the B team for several years and made a real contribution to the running of the club. He was a good friend to many, especially Ian Chapman and many police colleagues who played alongside him in the B team.

I have lost a near lifelong friend.
