Saturday saw Rochdale against the Moorlanders, Leek RFC. It was to be a close game, one of two halves, conditions suiting Rochdale, a dry, sunny day and grassy pitch.

Selection saw Rochdale more recognisable to that of the start of the season. Steve Collins back at fly half the two Joes, Horne and Donnelly in midfield, Paddy O`Loughlin returning to the second row, complimented by a strong presence on the bench.
Great to have Steve Collins back

Rochdale got off to a poor start, Leek winning the ball from their own kick off, leading to immense pressure early on. Two yellow cards for high tackles did not help, Leek scoring 7-0. Despite a good deal of both territory and procession Leek could not further the score, testament to Rochdale`s great defending. Half time 7-0.
Leek extended their lead in the second half. 14-0. Rochdale pressure saw Sunderland breaking through four would be tacklers to score under the posts, Collins to convert. 14-7.

Rochdale upped their game, starting to dominate, but Leek broke the line, against the run of play. 19-7. A late comeback looked on a further try by Steve Collins, superbly converted. Only one minute left, time ran out, there was to be no late come back.

Again, a bonus point, great resilience, good defending and team spirit. Too many silly mistakes. However, something to build on.
