Established in 2018, Rochdale Valkyries are a development team that has grown year on year. As we approach the 2021/22 season, in the North West Allianz Inner Warrior Series, we are keen to grow and welcome new and existing players to join our squad. We currently train Tuesday evenings 6.45pm - 8pm and play competitive games on a flexible basis.
Why choose Rugby?
Women’s rugby is one of the fastest-growing females sports. It allows women to break from stereotypical norms and try something different, whilst benefitting physically, mentally and socially at the same time.
Why choose Rochdale Valkyries?
Our ethos has always been #youcanplay. Here at Rochdale we are a friendly, fun and welcoming club: passionate about rugby and it’s inclusiveness. There is a place for every size, shape, age, occupation and fitness level on the pitch and in our team, and that is the beauty of rugby. We can offer training and fitness opportunities through rugby as well as competitive matches throughout the season.
Here are what some of our squad had to say:
‘I went to an #InnerWarrior session in Feb 2020, after being an armchair rugby fan for 10 years.
I am a big believer in taking opportunities when they arise and wanted to try something new to help me get fit.
I was apprehensive as I walked in on my own, but then I met Natalie, Claire, Janette, Gemma & Rachel and they all made me feel so welcome and were very patient with me as I took on the first challenge of throwing & catching a ball whilst moving!!
Then Covid hit and lock down began so I didn’t get to join with training until July last year – since then I have not looked back 😊
This amazing group of women and brilliant coaches have encouraged and supported me to be brave and try something new. I have made new friends and even brought my daughter along who now loves training & playing.
I have never played a team sport before (enthusiasm was not enough at school – actually needed some skill too) and I played my first game in May this year. I was so happy and proud to be part of the team and its all because of the ethos of this club – to be accepting of all ages & abilities, and to value everyone’s contribution. I am 53 – I sit behind a desk a day long and everything aches……, but for 90 minutes each week I get to forget about work and think about moving in a different way, game planning and working with my team mates to get the best outcome. If I can do it, anyone can 😊’
