Dale fall at the last hurdle
Rochdale fell just short at Bowdon despite a dominant first-half performance. Following their impressive 35–19 win over Manchester, Dale arrived confident of strengthening their Level 5 survival hopes. With a powerful pack and the return of captain Josh Schofield, they started strongly.
Early pressure and solid defence set the platform for Stevie Collins to open the scoring with a penalty. Dale soon extended their lead when Ben Sunderland and Joe Horne combined for an excellent try under the posts, converted by Collins. Another penalty pushed the advantage to 13–0 at half-time, with Dale firmly in control.
Bowdon responded after the break with a penalty, but Dale struck back quickly. A superb cross-field kick from Collins found Horne for his second try, extending the lead to 20–3. The match turned, however, when Collins was shown a yellow card. Bowdon took full advantage, scoring a converted try and building momentum.
Despite strong defensive work from the Dale pack, Bowdon added two more tries in the final minutes to complete the comeback and seal a 24–20 win. Dale secured a losing bonus point but will feel this was a missed opportunity after a commanding first half.
No fixture next Saturday; Rochdale return to action at home on the 28th against league leaders Anselmians.
